One of the most prestigious street dance groups in Finland, Will Funk For Food (WFFF), brings to Kanneltalo Finland’s first full-length performance based on the street dance style locking. The work is inspired by the hypermasculinity and toxic machismo of western films and the genre's cavalcade of characters. A Fistful of Funk revolves around locking from which it begins to weave connections to the world of contemporary dance theatre. The performance dives head-first into one of the main elements of locking dance: character. Ultimately, character is the distinctive feature that separates dancers from each other and contributes to the uniqueness of their individual styles. The group seeks to dismantle the masculinity familiar from westerns and explore what masculinity and masculine encounters can be instead. In addition to exploring the themes of friendship and brotherhood, the performance uses the western setting as a platform for playful street dance duels, known as battles in street dance culture. Locking, which was originally danced to funk music, was created by African Americans living on the West Coast of the United States in the 1970s. Locking is characterised by precise, sharp pauses and acrobatic tricks, combined with the grooving 'party steps' of the West Coast social dances. In addition to locking, the performance utilises the movement language of contemporary dance, physical theatre, and clown techniques. The aim is to create an adventurous, narrative stage where each performer’s originality and uniqueness feed each other. Will Funk For Food, founded in 2008, is one of the most internationally successful street dance groups in Finland specialised in locking. WFFF is making locking known in Finland and aims to establish street dance as part of the Finnish cultural scene and bring joy to all ages. The dance group has won three consecutive Finnish Championships and performed internationally in Japan, France, and Sweden. The stage will feature Will Funk For Food's Akim Bakhtaoui, Wilhelm Blomberg, Jeffrey Kam, Teemu Kullberg and Sami Pajari, as well as sound designer and musician Sebastian Kurtén, and drummer Elias Ojutkangas.

Annantalo Art Saturdays allow the whole family to spend time together enjoying art in open workshops – stop by briefly or stay for a longer visit. Have you ever taken a closer look at the moon on a clear night? What sort of patterns can be seen on the moon’s surface? The participants sketch their ideas of what kind of patterns might be seen on the surface of the moon. We draw inspiration from sources such as a flight to the dark side of the moon, a potion-making hare, and how each person sees the patterns on the moon’s surface. The collage is made from cardboard and tissue paper in shades of yellow. The works created during the workshop will be displayed in the facade windows of Annantalo. Moon Flight is one of the workshops linked to the jointly created ‘Spectrum’ artwork In autumn 2026, Annantalo’s workshops and art groups will create a collaborative light art installation entitled Spectrum. This workshop is one of many in which different parts of the work are created. Come and make your contribution to the window installations to be displayed on the Annankatu side, glowing in the different colours of the spectrum. The opening ceremony for the Spectrum light installation will be held on 9 December at 18.00, illuminating the windows of Annantalo in a blaze of colour. Come and join us in building our shared spectrum! No prior skills are needed to participate, and all are welcome. Hearing protection and other sensory aids are available for children when needed. There is also a quiet room in the premises. Annantalo Art Saturdays are free-of-charge and suitable for participants from all language backgrounds. How does Sisu cope with the hedgehog? Will its quills ever soften? Comfort is found in warm hugs and memories hidden in the forest. The grief-hedgehog is here to stay, but joy and happiness can be its companions. The book's creators, Essi Suotula and Milja Laine, will be present. At the celebration, you can also buy a signed copy of Sisu ja surusiili at a special launch price. Payment by cash or MobilePay. A warm welcome to all.

Join the Malmitalo Youth Film Club! The course is aimed at young people aged 15–18 who are interested in films. At the Film Club meetings, we watch films chosen by the young people themselves and discuss them together. In the discussions, we deepen our connection with the film that we watched together by talking about its subjects and themes, and the emotions that it evokes. At the same time, the discussion can foster understanding of the techniques of audiovisual storytelling, filmmaking, and potentially even film history. The aim of the club is to learn together through laid-back and inquisitive discussion, rather than through lecture-style studying. The Film Club meets four times, and three feature-length films are selected for the programme based on the young people’s wishes. The club meets for the first time on Saturday 10 October. During the first meeting, the members get to know one another and agree on the autumn programme. This is followed by three club meetings devoted to watching films and discussing them, on Saturdays 24 October, 31 October and 7 November. The open film screening and club discussion are held during each course meeting from 15.00 to 18.00. The course is instructed by Aatos Ketvel, who holds a master’s degree in film studies.
