Satu Tuittila & Co: Small & Significant

A dance performance for primary school children about things important to nature and humanity that are small and significant, but so big at the same time! This dance performance delves into the marvellous lives of the inhabitants of a flower meadow, while also providing fascinating information about pollinating insects that are significant to nature and humanity: bees, bumblebees, hoverflies, butterflies and beetles. We encourage and inspire the audience to make their own observations and take small steps to support nature in their local area. Small & Significant combines artistic work with scientific research and draws on a multifaceted approach to viewing and experiencing dance. Dance provides a lively and playful way to approach the subject. The experiential and participatory information material accompanying the performance aims to convey information in a way that is easy to understand and memorable. 90% of the world’s wild flowering plants and 75% of cultivated plants are at least partly dependent on pollinators. The numbers of pollinating insects have been declining at an alarming rate all over the world in recent times. The destruction of habitats, the use of pesticides, intensive farming and biodiversity loss in urban nature continue to pose a threat to pollinators. Concept and choreography: Satu Tuittila Dancers: Jonna Aaltonen and Ilona Salonen/Jenny Kallio, performer Satu Tuittila Lighting design: Vespa Laine Visual design and costume design: Kirsi Vaara Music and sound design: Mikko Väärälä Information material and workshops: Satu Tuittila, Elli Herranen, the dancers and the Katoava luonto research group. Performance duration: roughly 45–50 min Language: the performance is non-verbal; the event is hosted in accordance with the audience’s language needs The project is supported by the Kone Foundation, the Regional Dance Centre of Western Finland, the Finnish Cultural Foundation, Turku Adventure Park, TOP Foundation, Vuokko Foundation for Nature Conservation, the Kokko1721 residence and Svenska Kulturfonden.

Mysterio Buffo play

Dario Fo was an Italian Nobel laureate, actor, and merciless satirist of power, whose theatre gave a voice to ordinary people. Fo's legendary Mysterio Buffo is now being performed at a time when laughter is once again needed. Mysterio Buffo is a series of joyful, physical, and insightful monologues, drawing from the tradition of medieval itinerant jesters and the voice of the people who do not bow to power. The performance includes Fo's stories: The Wedding at Cana, The Birth of the Jester, The Resurrection of Lazarus, and Boniface VIII. These centuries-old tales resonate directly with today: populism, corruption, the alliances of religion and economy, and human participation in society appear surprisingly familiar: whose voice is heard, and who dares to use it? Mysterio Buffo had its Finnish premiere at KOM-teatteri in 1982. Erkki Saarela has toured with the performance.

Collage – Stage of Things

Four artists are invited to Viirus to create a performance together. They are strangers to each other. They come from different artistic backgrounds. The artists collaborate, challenge and influence one another, trying to find new connections in this messy era. Instead of compromising, they decide to collide and find ways to be present in each others’ work of art – it is fun, tragic and ridiculous at the same time. They call it a living collage. This is possibly the beginning of something unknown, a new era that is still to be discovered. The invited artists are choreographer Jenni-Elina von Bagh (FIN), multidisciplinary artist Majula Drammeh (SE), visual and performance artist Nastja Säde Rönkkö (FIN), and theatre director Gosia Wdowik (PL). Collage – stage of things is a multidisciplinary piece that challenges individualism, separation and ownership. It places collaboration, in all its messiness and potential, at the center of the stage. Will Funk For Food: A Fistful of Funk

One of the most prestigious street dance groups in Finland, Will Funk For Food (WFFF), brings to Kanneltalo Finland’s first full-length performance based on the street dance style locking. The work is inspired by the hypermasculinity and toxic machismo of western films and the genre's cavalcade of characters. A Fistful of Funk revolves around locking from which it begins to weave connections to the world of contemporary dance theatre. The performance dives head-first into one of the main elements of locking dance: character. Ultimately, character is the distinctive feature that separates dancers from each other and contributes to the uniqueness of their individual styles. The group seeks to dismantle the masculinity familiar from westerns and explore what masculinity and masculine encounters can be instead. In addition to exploring the themes of friendship and brotherhood, the performance uses the western setting as a platform for playful street dance duels, known as battles in street dance culture. Locking, which was originally danced to funk music, was created by African Americans living on the West Coast of the United States in the 1970s. Locking is characterised by precise, sharp pauses and acrobatic tricks, combined with the grooving 'party steps' of the West Coast social dances. In addition to locking, the performance utilises the movement language of contemporary dance, physical theatre, and clown techniques. The aim is to create an adventurous, narrative stage where each performer’s originality and uniqueness feed each other. Will Funk For Food, founded in 2008, is one of the most internationally successful street dance groups in Finland specialised in locking. WFFF is making locking known in Finland and aims to establish street dance as part of the Finnish cultural scene and bring joy to all ages. The dance group has won three consecutive Finnish Championships and performed internationally in Japan, France, and Sweden. The stage will feature Will Funk For Food's Akim Bakhtaoui, Wilhelm Blomberg, Jeffrey Kam, Teemu Kullberg and Sami Pajari, as well as sound designer and musician Sebastian Kurtén, and drummer Elias Ojutkangas.

The performance features familiar children's songs, and the audience can participate in the play by singing along. The show is best suited for children aged 2–8 and their families. Poiskatsojat play

The events in Gaza are shaking the world. Politicians and the media are closing their eyes. Ordinary citizens feel powerless. What is it all about? KOM-teatteri's new autumn production is a direct and startling report on why Western countries look away when they should intervene. The performance, tinged with dark humour, offers factual information for anyone who has felt confused by world politics. Director Susanna Kuparinen is a multi-award-winning scriptwriter, journalist, and pioneer of documentary theatre, whose previous works have shaken both decision-makers and audiences. In her works, theatre is a conveyor of information and an arena for public discussion. Now, Kuparinen, together with journalist Maria Pettersson and the KOM-teatteri ensemble, brings perhaps her boldest work to the stage. In it, the collapsing world order and Finnish politicians invade news screens.

Circo Aereo: Pyörre circus performance

'Pyörre' (Whirl) is a contemporary circus performance suitable for the whole family, where Eetu Ranta takes the audience on a wondrous journey with spinning objects and acrobatic choreographies. Combining various objects and circus disciplines, the piece is a collection of successive wordless stories – movements, moods, and images. They are united by a swirling motion that draws in the performer and objects, sound and light. The performance features toys and tools used around the world, whose handling requires skill and knowledge of the effects of physical laws on movement. Originally made from natural materials, tools such as a Nigerian rascal top made from a snail shell, a South American lasso, and an East Asian diabolo come to life in a completely new way in the performance. Organ fairy tale BUU: Kerttu and Hukkanen's Adventures

Kerttu lives in a tiny village, so small it barely exists. A great wind sweeps across the world, carrying houses and people with it. Kerttu is blown away from her family and finds herself in an unknown forest. There, she meets a wolf who becomes her friend and trusted companion. This is the start of Kerttu and Hukkanen's adventure towards the wonderful tree, Buu. This organ fairy tale by author Kari Hotakainen and composer Jouni Hirvelä began with an email from organist Jan Lehtola to Hotakainen in October 2024. “Lehtola told me about Musiikkitalo's famous organ and asked me to write a fairy tale about it. The request sounded both crazy and interesting, so I said yes.” Text: Kari Hotakainen. Music: Jouni Hirvelä. Eerik Ohtamaa, organ. Martina Roos, narrator. Musiikkitalo 14.11.2026 12.00-13.00.
